FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You're a Marriage and Family Therapist, do you see individuals?
Yes! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) which means I have a Master's degree in MFT offering me the education and experience to work effectively with couples and families, or to work with individuals from a more "systemic" lens. While I do see couples in my practice, the majority of my clients are individuals. You may notice as an individual client that I take special care to address your relationships and connection points as a part of our work together.
How long is each session? How long will I be in therapy overall?
A standard therapy hour is 50 minutes, so you can anticipate sessions being between 50 and 55 minutes on average. I also offer 45 minute sessions at a reduced rate.
Each client's needs for therapy are different, and therefore the length of time you're working with me will vary. Some folks join me for just a few sessions and feel that they've gotten what they need! Others work with me longer term as their presenting concerns are more pervasive or ongoing. We can work together to determine how therapy will best serve you and your goals.
Additionally, I am a certified provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which is an empirically based treatment for PTSD. You may have heard of it on This American Life. CPT is a 12 session approach, and if you're seeking therapy with me for this purpose you can expect your therapy to be around 12-14 sessions total.
Do you take insurance?
I am a fee-for-service therapist and out of network provider, meaning I do not bill directly to insurance. I can provide a reciept that you are able to submit to your insurance company, and they may choose to directly reimburse you a percentage of your fee.
I can accept payment through all major credit cards, or HSA/FSA cards, which clients will have on file and will be billed following each session. My fees are as follows:
- $150 per 55 minute individual session
- $135 per 45 minute individual session
- $180 per 55 minute couples session
- $50 per 90 minute group session
Sliding Scale - I offer a sliding scale rate to the following populations upon request:
- POC
- LGBTQ+ folks
What are the benefits of not billing insurance?
Unless we're submitting a superbill, not billing insurance allows for clients to have greater autonomy over their therapy. This means insurance companies are not determining how many sessions you need and discontinuing payment on their time. You're also granted more privacy, as insurance companies won't have acccess to your records. Also, when billing insurance, therapists are required to provide a diagnosis. This is fitting in some cases, and in the cases where it is not appropriate, private pay clients are not given an unnecessary diagnosis.
